ConstructionPrefab shop, yard and floorRobotics engineering

Robotics Engineering for Construction

Develop a fixture, handling aid, marking tool, sensor mount or test rig for one defined construction task.

Scroll

Tell us the element, floor or product and the step that causes rework; a few plain sentences are enough.

Engineer the repeatable step, then check it against the survey. Nestack designs the mechanism, sensing and controls, proves them in a prefab shop, casting yard or prepared floor, and measures the result against an independent survey or QC reference. Your elements, floors and survey control decide whether a jig, a commercial machine or a prototype is worth testing.

Who this page is for

What are you working on?

Where this page stops: finished, occupied buildings sit with Real Estate robotics, quarrying and mine sites with Mining, household repairs with Home Services, factory cells unrelated to building elements with Manufacturing, and the construction product itself with Product Manufacturing; this page builds the test rig, not the product. Construction ERP, BIM, apps and RPA sit with our existing Construction software page and Intelligent Automation / RPA.

Discuss a project for precast, modular and prefab producers

Four decisions, four owners

Did the tool meet its measures? May it run here, with this supervision? Are the elements or marks acceptable? Does it beat today's method?

The floor and the element decide the result. A marker, insert jig or handling fixture behaves differently as slab flatness, dust, moisture, mould type, unit weight and line of sight change. Results only mean something once those conditions, coordinates, tolerances and the area's controller are written into the plan.

Engineering acceptance
Did the tool meet its planned measures? Owners: technical leads.
Plant or site release
May it run here, with this supervision? Owner: the principal employer or plant manager, with safety review.
Structural, QC and survey sign-off
Are the elements or marks acceptable? Owners: your engineer, QC lead and surveyor.
Commercial decision
Does cost per accepted result beat today's method at real volumes? Owner: the buyer.

Live-site autonomy, cranes and lifting, demolition, excavation, work at height, shared site robots, drones and explosives are separately gated.

Illustrative scopes

Four tasks, each proved away from the live site

These illustrative scopes are starting points for discussion, not completed client engagements. Each starts in a workshop, then a controlled bay or floor.

Illustrative scope

Layout and marking aid on a prepared floor

Your challenge
Transfer points from drawings to a slab with fewer errors than tape and total station.
Possible scope
One cleared, dry floor area, your survey control, a CAD-to-points step and a marker or total-station interface.
You receive
Prototype, data procedure, mark log, check survey.
Acceptance
Deviation against an independent survey, share within tolerance, missed marks, setup time. Boundary: no survey certification or open-site navigation.

Feasibility and project economics

Test whether a robot is the answer before building one

A Construction Task Feasibility Assessment pins down the element family or floor area, coordinates, tolerances, conditions, current method and who controls the area. You get a task specification, a costed baseline, options side by side and a trial plan with measures and open risks, ending in a decision for your next pour or floor: trial it, change it or drop it. Options are priced across the whole floor or production cycle, including crew hours, survey setup, CAD preparation, rework, idle time, training, supervision and recovery, and compared as cost per accepted mark, element or test. A better template often beats a machine.

01
Improve the current method
Would a better template or setting-out routine remove most rework?
02
Passive jig
Can a fixed fixture hold tolerance without control?
03
Buy
Does a layout robot or shuttering station suit your floors and volume?
04
Adapt
Can a permitted attachment on your equipment do it?
05
Integrate
Is the gap a data link between CAD, instrument and records?
06
Build
What can only a working prototype on your elements show?

Engineering packages

Seven packages with outputs your engineers can check

We engineer the tool, not the building: element design, tolerances, lifting inserts, setting-out and product approval stay with your structural, QC and survey owners. A data port or mounting rail is not permission to add load or command motion, so we record the model, firmware, documented limits and the owner's written permission, then work on the bench first and a controlled area after.

Safety, data, IP and site

Work inside the site's rules, not around them

Every trial runs inside the host's safety plan, with the tool's limits, loads, recovery steps and file terms agreed before anything moves.

  • The principal employer controls the area

Trials run under the site or plant owner's safety plan, inductions and permits; Nestack supplies the tool's limits and recovery steps but does not manage site safety. Fix the operating area, segregation, entry control and supervisor before anything moves. Test detection with objects, never people. New openings or moved temporary works void an earlier area check.

  • Loads and stability

State payload, load geometry and stability for every fixture. The starter scope has no suspended loads, lifting appliances or work at height; a lift-assist stays near the ground in a fenced yard. A stop can leave a load held or a spring charged, so define isolation before anyone clears a blockage.

  • Plan for the run that goes wrong

Rehearse lost survey control, a knocked reference mark, blocked line of sight, a dirty sensor and a jammed insert. Returning power or signal must never restart motion. Any contact, near miss or unplanned movement stops testing until reviewed; restart is a deliberate, authorised action. Name who stops work, isolates energy and clears jams. Teaching, cleaning and maintenance are separate modes.

  • Drawings, models, scans and files

Drawings and BIM models usually belong to clients and designers; agree use, storage, access and return before receiving any. Scans can capture workers and the public, so limit capture and agree retention. Separate project files from Nestack background tools and licences, and control remote access to site devices.

Ways to work together

  1. Construction Task Feasibility Assessment

A task specification, costed baseline, options side by side and a trial plan, ending in trial it, change it or drop it.

  2. Engineering package

One fixture, marking aid, sensor mount, handling aid or test rig, proved in a workshop, then a controlled bay or floor.

  3. Dedicated engineers

Engineers added to one precast, layout or test package, interviewed by you.

  4. Support once testing ends

Agree who repairs the tool, keeps spares, connects remotely and stores it between projects; prototype support is not field service.
