Robotics Engineering for Aerospace Production and Inspection

Make a defined aerospace task repeatable.

Scroll

Share a non-sensitive description of the operation and what makes it difficult to repeat.

Develop a fixture, inspection-support tool or bench interface around one clear engineering task. Work with Nestack to assess the mechanism, sensing or controls, evaluate a prototype on representative articles and prepare the records your technical team needs to review the result.

Who this is for

What are you working on?

The proposed service covers civil and non-weapon ground-based engineering support. Begin with a coupon, mock-up or other authorised representative article. Production or maintenance use follows the responsible customer procedures and approvals; aircraft release remains with authorised personnel.

Discuss a project for civil aerospace suppliers

Three different acceptance decisions

Did the prototype perform as agreed? Does the method suit the task? Can the actual part be accepted?

Repeated setup, awkward sensor access, changing configurations and disconnected test records can make a task difficult to evaluate. Identify the specific bottleneck and its reference method before choosing a robot. A simple jig or existing instrument may be enough.

Engineering trial
Did the prototype perform its agreed bounded function? Responsible owner: the technical project owner.
Method / process
Is the equipment and procedure suitable for the intended task? Responsible owners: qualified engineering and quality owners.
Article / maintenance release
Can the actual part or aircraft be accepted? Responsible: the authorised organisation or personnel.
Uncertainty in view
Motion repeatability, measurement accuracy and defect sensitivity are different properties. A repeatable camera position does not establish that all defects will be found.

Agree the target feature, material, geometry, surface condition and coverage. Preserve missed areas and inconclusive results for the qualified reviewer.

Illustrative scopes

Four ways to test a specific requirement

Each scope starts with representative non-flight articles and agreed technical acceptance. These are illustrative scopes, not completed client engagements.

A of D
Illustrative scope

Repeatable sensor-positioning trial

Your challenge
One panel feature is difficult to capture consistently.
Possible scope
Approved representative geometry and sensing method.
You receive
Mount, coordinate plan, instrument interface, source captures and coverage report.
Acceptance
Placement, signal quality, repeatability, missed regions and recovery. A qualified owner defines reference features and method acceptance; a repeatable scan is not a serviceability decision.

Feasibility

Choose the simplest useful tool

An Aerospace Tooling Feasibility Assessment defines the exact operation, article identity and status, geometry, material, configuration and current procedure before a build is estimated. Measure total effort, from setup and reference checks to review, rework and changeover; faster motion alone does not establish lower cost or reduced aircraft downtime.

01
Task specification
The operation and the sample's status: a dummy, coupon, retired article or potentially serviceable part.
02
Interface and data map
The technical and quality owners, equipment access and the data you permit.
03
Options comparison
Whether setup, a fixed reference, existing qualified equipment, an integration or a bounded custom prototype resolves the gap.
04
Test plan and next-stage scope
A representative test plan, principal risks and next-stage scope, leading to a proceed, revise or stop decision.

Engineering packages

Engineering packages to discuss, each with reviewable outputs. Specialist measurement, NDT interpretation or process work is arranged separately where required; engineering the motion or data interface does not supply those qualifications.

Site safety and information

Protect the article and the working environment

Plan the physical arrangement, stopping and recovery, data access and file rights with the responsible owners before testing.

  • Design the complete arrangement

Review the swept area, clamps, retained parts, stored energy, loading and service access with competent owners. Agree surface-contact limits and protection of valuable articles. Include foreign-object and debris control, tool accountability, cleaning or ESD requirements where the task needs them. A workshop trial does not authorise work beside an aircraft.

  • Plan stopping and recovery

Define normal stop, fault response, isolation and authorised restart for the mechanism. Test relevant power, sensor and communications failures. Reassess changes to payload, tooling, paths, code or layout. Keep process and machinery safeguards within explicitly assigned competent responsibilities.

  • Control data and remote access

Map drawings, scans, recipes, source code, logs and credentials. Agree authorised people, approved storage, remote-support locations and tools before technical exchange. Keep customer data out of unapproved cloud or AI services. Record changes, protect backups and remove temporary access when work ends.

  • Agree files and rights

The engagement should distinguish new project work, customer designs, licensed technical data, background libraries and vendor software. Specify editable deliverables, permitted reuse and restrictions. An NDA does not grant every technical-data permission or transfer all third-party rights.

Handoff and support

Train for the actual handoff

Operators should demonstrate permitted start, stop and recovery; specialist calibration and inspection duties need their own qualified owners.

Ways to work together

  1. Aerospace Tooling Feasibility Assessment

Define the task, compare the alternatives and agree a proceed, revise or stop decision.

  2. Focused project

A fixture, inspection-support tool or bench interface evaluated on representative articles.

  3. Dedicated engineers

A bounded work package with agreed supervision and deliverables.

  4. Support after the trial

Named owners for fixtures, instruments, software and reference materials; production uptime, airside attendance and aircraft availability are separate commitments.

  1. The proposed offer concerns civil and non-weapon production tooling, inspection support and bench automation. Start with a defined fixture, sensing or interface task on authorised representative non-flight articles. It does not offer weapons, flight-control systems, aircraft design approval or automatic maintenance release. Confirm the actual skills and scope before commissioning work.

Describe the engineering task first

Tell us what needs to be positioned, observed or coordinated and why the current method is difficult. A high-level description is enough for an initial fit discussion. Detailed drawings, samples and programme information can follow through an approved route once the relevant owners have agreed access.
