Robotics Engineering for Automotive Suppliers and Workshops

Start with one station, fixture, test bench or part family.

Scroll

Name the part family, the station or test and what goes wrong today; a short paragraph is enough.

Prototype an assembly-assist fixture, a kitting aid, a single-station end-of-line test bench, an inspection sensor mount or an EV battery module handling fixture for one component family. Nestack designs the mechanism, control and measurement, builds it on a bench, runs it on your parts beside your current method and reports cycle time, escapes caught, false calls and recovery effort.

Who should use this page

What are you working on?

Takt, batch size and variant changeover decide whether a fixture, a bought device or a custom rig deserves a trial.

Discuss a project for tier-1 and tier-2 manufacturing-engineering leads

Three separate decisions

Did the rig do its bounded job? May it run at this station? Does it beat the current method?

A fixture that locates a bracket perfectly on the bench can still fail on a coated variant, a worn nest or a new operator, so the part and the batch decide the result.

Engineering acceptance
Did the rig or fixture do its bounded job on the named parts? Engineering leads on both sides.
Station release
May it run here with this guarding, isolation and recovery? Customer safety and maintenance leads.
Quality and commercial
Does it fit the control plan, and does cost per good part beat the current method? Customer quality lead and buyer.
Where this page ends
Factory-wide cell, line and plant automation sits on the Manufacturing robotics page, vehicle yards and mobile fleets on Transportation, and PCB and ECU board test on Electronics. Vehicle autonomy, ADAS, homologation, AIS or ARAI type-approval testing, live high-voltage work and OEM line commissioning are not offered.

Before any build, agree the part family and variants, the current method and its measured cycle, the escapes that started the enquiry, the test specification and reference method, and who owns quality, safety and maintenance.

Illustrative scopes

Four bounded projects, one part family each

Illustrative scopes, not completed client work. Each starts offline on sample parts and masters and enters the plant only after bench evidence and a documented risk assessment are accepted.

Illustrative scope

Assembly-assist fixture and part presentation

Your challenge
A lift, locate and fasten sequence on a bracket or housing causes fatigue, wrong orientation or missed fasteners.
Possible scope
One station; a clamping fixture with poka-yoke, a kit tray sequenced to the assembly order.
You receive
Fixture CAD, BOM and build, tray layout, work instruction, trial report.
Acceptance
Time per unit including fetch, fastener escapes caught, exposure score, variant changeover. Boundary: not a production-released fixture or an injury guarantee.

Feasibility and batch economics

Choose the cheapest change that survives the changeover

A Station and Test-Gap Feasibility Assessment starts from part drawings and variants, the current method and cycle, escapes or rework loops, the test specification and your quality, safety and maintenance owners. You receive a station brief, a measured baseline, an option comparison and a verdict to proceed, revise or stop; where a hand fixture or bought bench wins, the report says so. With modest batches and frequent variant changes, changeover and utilisation decide viability more than peak cycle time, so options are compared on cost per good part and escapes avoided per month, never a headcount promise.

01
Current method
Would a better nest, poka-yoke or instruction close the gap?
02
Passive fixture or tray
Does a fixture or kit tray remove the fetch or orientation error?
03
Buy
Does an assist arm, leak instrument or market bench fit the part and budget?
04
Adapt
Can a mount or nest make equipment you own do the job?
05
Integrate
Is the gap a sequence or record between devices you have?
06
Build
Which uncertainty can only a custom rig resolve?

Safety, data, IP and site

Treat every fixture as a machine

A fixture or rig delivered into a factory is machinery under the occupier's duties.

  • Guard it, isolate it, maintain it

We design dangerous parts to be fenced, gearing encased and an isolation point for air and power provided, and hand over the risk assessment, residual-risk statement and inspection schedule. Plant compliance remains with you; a risk assessment is not a certificate.

  • Safety functions are assigned, not assumed

An interlock, light curtain or safe stop on a rig is a safety function. Its required performance level comes from the risk assessment and a competent person validates it; each is listed with its owner.

  • Batteries and high-energy processes

Battery work starts with inert or de-energised modules and your high-voltage procedure, with contacts clear of vents and coolant joints. Recovery is approved by your high-voltage competent person; our engineers never touch an energised module. Welding, press and paint stations carry hazards this page does not cover, and self-propelled part transport is a separate regime.

  • Drawings, data and designs

Part drawings, test specifications and OEM-confidential documents are held under agreed access, retention and return terms. Footage that identifies operators is personal data; purpose and erasure are agreed before capture. Project files, Nestack background libraries and third-party licences are separated in the contract. A networked rig sits inside your segmentation with least-privilege access.

  1. Engineering around one part family at a tier supplier or workshop: an assembly-assist fixture, a kitting aid, a single-station leak or functional bench, an inspection sensor mount, or an EV module handling fixture. Each starts offline on your sample parts before a supervised trial. Vehicle autonomy, ADAS, homologation, type-approval testing, live high-voltage work and OEM line commissioning are not offered; factory-wide automation sits on our Manufacturing page.

Describe the part, the station and the escape

Tell us the part family, the station or test, and what goes wrong: a slow fetch, a missed fastener, a leak found at the dock or a module awkward to lift. A paragraph is enough; drawings follow once confidentiality is agreed.
