Robotics Engineering for Electronics Manufacturing and Test

Prove the station on your own boards first.

Scroll

Name the board or device, the station and the step that causes damage, rework or slow test; a short description is enough.

Seat boards in the test fixture without bending a probe, mate a fine-pitch connector without cracking its latch, find the camera angle that shows a lifted lead, or let a bench rig cycle buttons and ports on devices. Nestack designs the nest, gripper, sensing and embedded control around one board family and one station, proves it on representative boards under your ESD rules and compares it with today's method before any line equipment is bought.

Who decides what

Did the aid meet its agreed measures? Are programme, limits and coverage unchanged? Does cost per tested board beat today?

A nest cut for one outline fails when a tall capacitor moves; a connector that mates cleanly from one supplier may stub on another's; a light angle that shows polarity marks may flood a shiny fillet. Every trial names the part numbers, revisions and conditions it covers, and applies to those alone.

Illustrative scope

Test-station board loading and sorting aid

Your challenge
Operators load one board family into a functional or in-circuit fixture, start the test and sort results by hand.
Possible scope
One existing fixture on a bench; tray presentation, guided seat or gripper, test start via the tester's documented interface, pass/fail segregation.
You receive
Nest and gripper CAD, ESD material notes, interface specification, run log.
Acceptance
Mis-seats over an agreed run, board and probe damage, contact force within your limit, mis-sorts on audit, full cycle against manual. Boundary: test programme and coverage stay with you.

Feasibility and station economics

Weigh the jig, the cell and the custom aid against today

We start at one station and what goes wrong there. Using figures you already keep, such as operator minutes per board, first-pass yield, false fails, handling damage and changeover time, the assessment fixes a baseline, prices realistic options side by side and ends with a call for one board family: bench trial, fix the manual method first, or stop. A high-mix, modest-volume line may not keep a cell busy. Compare cost per correctly tested board, operator minutes, escapes and changeover time against your current method.

01
Improve the manual jig
Would better guides, locators or a lever press remove most mis-seats?
02
Buy
Does a commercial robot test cell with magazines suit your volume and mix?
03
Adapt or integrate
Can a new nest, gripper or change part on existing equipment do it? Is the gap a clean handshake between tester, handler and operator?
04
Build
What can only a custom aid, proved on your boards, show?

Engineering packages

Seven packages with outputs your team can inspect

Fixtures fit your ESD programme. Nests, gripper fingers, printed guides and cable carriers entering your protected area follow the ESD control plan you supply: materials, grounding paths and isolated conductors. Your coordinator verifies them before they touch production boards. Powered aids get a whole-station guarding review. We certify nothing.

Safety, ESD, data and IP

Your ESD rules, your guarding, your board files

Handling trials count only if boards still pass your inspection and test afterwards.

  • Static control comes from your programme

We ask for your ESD control plan, device sensitivity and verification method at the start. Where Nestack has no suitable controlled area, bench work on live product happens at your site or waits until one is set up.

  • When a cycle stops

Plan for a board seated on one edge, a warped panel, a wrong revision, a connector jammed half-way, a stuck probe plate and a tester that drops its link. The aid rejects rather than forces; results from a faulted run are marked invalid. Restored power or a cleared fault never restarts motion; restart is an authorised operator action. Name who clears jams, who quarantines and retests suspect boards and who runs the station by hand if the aid is withdrawn.

  • Outside the starter offer

Mains, high-voltage or hipot test, energised boards and batteries, burn-in, laser marking or depaneling, X-ray, soldering, coating and cleaning chemistry, SMT line or MES connection, and fab or OSAT equipment need separate qualified owners. We do not perform compliance testing, register products under BIS CRS or sign off ICT programmes or coverage.

  • Board files, firmware and keys

Gerbers, schematics, firmware, test limits and yield data are confidential. Share only what the task needs, often outline, keep-outs and test-point locations, under an NDA fixing storage, access and deletion. Device keys and programming images are deleted at handoff under the agreed terms, with written confirmation. Flag export-controlled designs early.

Ways to work together

  1. Electronics Station Feasibility Assessment

A baseline from figures you already keep, realistic options priced side by side and a call for one board family.

  2. Bench trial

One loading aid, insertion aid, camera trial or device-test rig, proved on representative boards under your ESD rules.

  3. Dedicated engineers

Engineers for one fixture, rig or trial, with deliverables and review points agreed before day one.

  4. Support after the trial

Agree who repairs nests, holds spare grippers and probes and re-qualifies new connectors. Bench-prototype help excludes warranty and cover when a production test line stops.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Showing 8 of 8 questions

  1. Bounded work around one board or device family and one station: test-fixture loading and sorting, force-limited connector insertion, ESD-aware nests and grippers, camera and lighting studies, and bench rigs for repetitive device checks. Product design sits on Product Manufacturing, SMT lines on Manufacturing, network equipment on Telecom, regulated devices on Medical Devices; wafer and cleanroom work is not offered at all.
