Robotics Engineering for Energy & Utilities

Bring one inspection, cleaning, test or handling task.

Scroll

Tell us the asset, the task and how it is done now; no drawings or network details are needed to start.

Bring one repetitive inspection, cleaning, test or handling task from a solar plant, substation, power station or meter laboratory. Nestack engineers a bounded mechanism, sensor payload, fixture or carrier, proves it on a bench or test array, then trials it under your permit-to-work with your designated electrical staff in charge. We report useful work, asset checks and recovery effort against today's method. Switching, isolation, earthing and energised parts stay with your people.

Who this page is for

What are you working on?

Where this page stops: waste, water treatment and environmental monitoring sit with Environment & Sustainability, even on a utility site; extraction and mine electrical systems with Mining; towers and telecom site power with Telecom; prefabrication fixtures, layout aids and construction-product test rigs with Construction. Finished meters and panels on your test bench stay here; meter PCB handling and board test go to Electronics, OEM product development to Product Manufacturing, and energy management, smart-grid and billing software to our Energy & Utilities page.

Who decides what

Did the device do its bounded job? May it run under this permit? Is the equipment unharmed? Does whole cost beat the current method?

Your safety system and your designated, certified people already decide who may approach, operate, isolate or earth apparatus. Our engineers work as contributors inside it: we design and test the device, your permit issuer sets route and clearances, and your person in charge holds stop-work authority.

Engineering acceptance
Did the device do its bounded job in the stated conditions? Your engineering lead with Nestack's technical lead.
Site permission
May it run on this route under this permit? Your permit issuer and designated person.
Asset effect
Are coatings, terminals and equipment unharmed? Your asset engineer.
Commercial decision
Does whole cost beat the current method? Your plant or procurement lead.

Switching, isolation, earthing and energised parts stay with your people.

Illustrative scopes

Four bounded tasks, bench first

Each scope starts on a bench and reaches site only under your permit. These are illustrative scopes, not completed client engagements.

A of D
Illustrative scope

Solar-module cleaning mechanism trial

Your challenge
Does a brush, head or row-transfer change suit your modules and dust without wearing the coating?
Possible scope
A bench rig with spare modules, then a supervised run on test or isolated rows (live in daylight, under your permit) beside uncleaned and manually cleaned reference rows; no electrical connection.
You receive
Prototype, wear and soiling records, failure log.
Acceptance
Soiling against reference rows, module checks your engineer selects, coating wear, battery heat, ingress, corrosion, stalls, recoveries. Boundary: no warranty, durability or generation-gain claim.

Feasibility and plant economics

Test the cheaper answer before the custom one

An Energy and Utility Task Feasibility Assessment measures today's method in full and compares every option on that basis. Utilisation decides value: soiling rate, round frequency, test volume. A device idle through the monsoon may not pay.

01
Task definition
The asset, task, route or rows, conditions from dry season to monsoon, today's method and the permit a trial would need.
02
Costed current method
Today's method in full: crew hours, water, escorts and permit time, handheld rounds, idle benches, damage and rework.
03
Options compared
Each option on that basis, adding integration, supervision, training, brushes, cloths and batteries, corrosion and UV replacement, data handling, downtime and spares.
04
Trial plan and advice
A staged trial plan with stop conditions, open risks and our advice to go ahead, change course or halt. If a bought robot or better trolley already does the job, we say so.

Engineering packages

Eight packages with outputs your engineers can check

Capture and diagnosis are different jobs: a payload that records a clear thermal image at the same point every round has done its job, and spotting a failing joint is a separate, validated assessment. Starter packages do not connect to SCADA, protection or plant control systems; if data later needs to move, your OT security team defines the interface, isolation and testing.

Safety, cyber, data and IP

Clearances, plant hazards, devices and data

Switching, isolation, earthing and energised parts stay with your people.

  • Your clearances are design inputs

Your permit sets the minimum distance to energised parts. Reach, antenna and payload stay outside it, with margin, in every pose and fault.

  • A stop button is not guarding

For fixtures and aids we carry out a machinery risk assessment (crush, trap, tipping, stored energy, test voltages) and agree guarding with your competent engineer. Define isolation and approach for each device.

  • What ends a run

Any change in energised state, clearance or permit scope stops the trial; restart needs a reissued permit. Lost localisation or communications, low battery, a brush jam or a tilted carrier must bring a defined stop, and the device stays still when power or the link comes back until a person restarts it. Contact with modules, water in a junction box, lightning alerts or an unplanned network connection end the run.

  • Recovery belongs to your people

Agree who may retrieve and restart a stalled device. A cleaner stuck on a live array is recovered by your designated staff under your procedure, not by our engineers improvising. We rehearse recovery on the bench.

  • Outside the starter offer

Live-line and hot-stick tools, or any approach inside energised clearances. Switching, isolation, earthing or operating apparatus, by a person or a robot. Hazardous areas, hydrogen, gas and battery storage. Confined spaces such as boilers and penstocks; work at height. Nuclear installations and drone inspection.

  • Devices, networks and incidents

We declare every device brought to site and stay off your networks: connection to SCADA, protection, plant control or metering networks is outside the starter offer. Data moves only through your approved process, and we agree who reports an incident involving our equipment.

  • Confidential data and IP

Layouts, single-line diagrams, thermal images and asset IDs are confidential; storage, access, retention and deletion are agreed before transfer. New designs stay separate from background IP; site imagery is not reused for training without written permission.

Ways to work together

  1. Energy and Utility Task Feasibility Assessment

Define the asset, task, conditions and permit, cost today's method and compare the options before anything is built.

  2. Bench and test-array trial

One mechanism, payload, fixture or carrier, proved on a bench or test array, then trialled under your permit-to-work.

  3. Dedicated engineers

Engineers for one cleaning, payload, fixture or carrier package, timed around your outage, season or test schedule.

  4. Support after the trial

Agree who fixes faults, where spares sit and whether remote login is allowed. A prototype is not an O&M contract or field service.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Showing 8 of 8 questions

  1. Four kinds of bounded work: a cleaning mechanism trial on test or isolated rows, treated as live in daylight, a sensor payload on an inspection platform you already run, a fixture or loading aid for your meter or panel test bench, and a handling aid for spares and kit inside a plant. Each starts on a bench and reaches site only under your permit. Waste and water treatment sit on our Environment & Sustainability page, mines on Mining and towers on Telecom.
