Automation with a practical purpose

Which step is repetitive? Where is consistency difficult? What is hard to measure or maintain?

The opportunity starts with the work people do every day. Which step is repetitive? Where is consistency difficult? What is hard to measure or maintain? We use these questions to define an engineering project with clear goals.

Reduce repetitive handling
Manual steps, operator interventions and time spent on a defined task.
Improve repeatability
Variation in positioning, motion or measurement under stated conditions.
Make evidence easier to capture
Completeness and traceability of test records and exceptions.
Improve maintainability
Setup, access, troubleshooting and component-replacement effort.

Benefits are assessed against a baseline and agreed conditions. We do not assume that a custom robot is always the best answer.

Project examples

Projects we can discuss

The following are illustrative scopes, not completed Nestack healthcare case studies. Each starts with a defined problem and a decision about what to build or investigate.

A of E
Illustrative scope

Test a mechanism consistently

Your challenge
Repeating the same operation by hand makes testing slow or inconsistent.
Possible scope
A cycle-test fixture, controls and measurement capture.
You receive
Fixture design, scripts, test method and results.
Evaluate
Agreed cycles, loads, measurements and failure behaviour with your quality team.

Start with a clear engineering decision

You may know the problem before you know the solution. A focused Workflow & Engineering Feasibility Assessment can help define the task, constraints, interfaces and success measures before a larger build is commissioned.

01
Workflow or system map
Users, equipment, manual steps, interfaces and exceptions.
02
Requirements and constraints
Intended use, environment, data, safety, cleaning and maintenance needs.
03
Options and recommendation
Build, adapt, buy, integrate or use software automation; including a recommendation not to build a custom robot where appropriate.
04
Next-stage scope
Principal risks, specialist input, prototype/pilot plan and an estimate based on the agreed scope.

Quality, safety, security and IP

Designed around the people and systems using it

We agree the quality procedures, records and responsibilities that apply to our scope. Requirements, design decisions and test results stay visible through the project. Regulatory and clinical activities are allocated according to each party's actual role.

  • Workflow, usability and service access

Start with who uses the equipment, where it operates and what happens during setup, normal use, cleaning and maintenance. These needs inform the interfaces and verification plan. Specialist usability, clinical and reprocessing work is included when the appropriate expertise and responsibilities are agreed.

  • Quality evidence your team can review

Review requirements, risk controls, design versions, test results and unresolved issues at agreed milestones. Changes remain documented so your team can understand what was built, what was tested and what still needs work.

  • Connected systems and data

For connected equipment, we agree how data moves, who can access the system, how software is updated and how security issues will be handled. Security requirements, component records and testing can be included in the agreed scope, with specialist assessment where needed.

  • Confidentiality and intellectual property

Ownership, background technology and third-party licences are defined in the contract. The agreed handoff identifies source files, components and permitted use. Confidential material is exchanged through approved channels, with an NDA where agreed.
